A sender could mark the attachment as an external attachment pointing to an arbitrary URL, which Thunderbird then loaded without any user interaction, bypassing remote content blocking. On Windows, a URL pointing to an attacker-controlled network share could leak the user's NTLM credentials.\nThe NTLM credential leak only affects Thunderbird on Windows. On other operating systems, the issue allowed a remote request that bypassed remote content blocking. This vulnerability was fixed in Thunderbird 159 and Thunderbird 153.6.","state":0,"publishedAt":"2026-10-27T18:16:28.729+00:00","modifiedAt":"2026-10-27T18:27:46.521+00:00","affected":[{"ecosystem":"Vendor product","name":"Thunderbird","ranges":[],"versions":[],"rawVersionEvidence":"{\n                    \"product\": \"Thunderbird\",\n                    \"vendor\": \"Mozilla\",\n                    \"versions\": [\n                        {\n                            \"status\": \"unaffected\",\n                            \"version\": \"153.6\",\n                            \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"153.*\",\n                            \"versionType\": \"rpm\"\n                        },\n                        {\n                            \"status\": \"unaffected\",\n                            \"version\": \"159\",\n                            \"lessThanOrEqual\": \"*\",\n                            \"versionType\": \"rpm\"\n                        }\n                    ]\n                }"}],"metrics":[],"references":["https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2080910","https://www.mozilla.org/security/advisories/mfsa2026-121/","https://www.mozilla.org/security/advisories/mfsa2026-122/"],"sourceUrl":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-118174","license":"CVE Program Terms of Use","key":"cve-program:CVE-2026-118174","identifiers":["CVE-2026-118174"]},"retained":false,"historicalAffected":[]}],"coverage":[]}
