When copying with the -p (preserve) flag, the utility applies the source mode bits even if the chown operation is unsuccessful. This can result in a user-owned copy retaining original privileged bits, creating unexpected privileged executables that violate local security policies. This differs from GNU cp, which clears these bits when ownership cannot be preserved.","state":0,"publishedAt":"2026-04-22T17:16:37.327+00:00","modifiedAt":"2026-10-26T21:10:00.17+00:00","affected":[],"metrics":[{"system":"CVSS 3.1 · security@ubuntu.com · Secondary","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:L","score":6.6,"severity":"MEDIUM"}],"references":["https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/issues/9750"],"sourceUrl":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-35350","license":"NIST NVD usage terms; underlying source attribution retained","enrichment":{"sourceStatus":"Analyzed","weaknesses":["CWE-281"],"productCriteria":["cpe:2.3:a:uutils:coreutils:-:*:*:*:*:rust:*:*"],"sourceDates":{"published":"2026-04-22T17:16:37.327","lastModified":"2026-10-26T21:10:00.170"},"relatedAdvisories":[],"note":"NVD analysis and CPE criteria are source context, not proof that a package or your environment is affected.
