Because the implementation reads bytes into regular files at the destination instead of using mknod, device semantics are destroyed (e.g., /dev/null becomes a regular file). This behavior can lead to runtime denial of service through disk exhaustion or process hangs when reading from unbounded device nodes.","state":0,"publishedAt":"2026-04-22T17:16:38.393+00:00","modifiedAt":"2026-10-26T22:10:00.163+00:00","affected":[],"metrics":[{"system":"CVSS 3.1 · security@ubuntu.com · Secondary","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:L","score":4.4,"severity":"MEDIUM"},{"system":"CVSS 3.1 · nvd@nist.gov · Primary","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":5.5,"severity":"MEDIUM"}],"references":["https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/issues/9746","https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/pull/11163","https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/releases/tag/0.7.0"],"sourceUrl":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-35358","license":"NIST NVD usage terms; underlying source attribution retained","enrichment":{"sourceStatus":"Analyzed","weaknesses":["CWE-706"],"productCriteria":["cpe:2.3:a:uutils:coreutils:*:*:*:*:*:rust:*:*"],"sourceDates":{"published":"2026-04-22T17:16:38.393","lastModified":"2026-10-26T22:10:00.163"},"relatedAdvisories":[],"note":"NVD analysis and CPE criteria are source context, not proof that a package or your environment is affected.
