An untrusted client could therefore supply a loopback or private address and have it returned by `c.RealIP()` with the extractor's default trust options.\n\nApplications using this extractor for IP allowlists, IP-based rate limiting, audit logs or forwarding headers could accept a spoofed client identity. Exploitation requires that the attacker can reach Echo directly or that an intervening proxy passes through the attacker's `X-Real-IP` value. Applications using the default direct IP extractor are unaffected. Echo v4 is unaffected by this v5 regression.\n\n## Affected versions and patch\n\nAll v5 releases from v5.0.0 through v5.4.0 are affected. Upgrade to [v5.4.1](https://github.com/labstack/echo/releases/tag/v5.4.1).\n\nThe patch validates the direct peer before accepting a syntactically valid `X-Real-IP` value, restoring the v4 trust model. [Fix commit](https://github.com/labstack/echo/commit/1855061e572ae9dab727c811d8382f266bfbaaec).\n\n## Workarounds\n\nUse `ExtractIPDirect` until upgrading, or ensure that only trusted proxies can reach Echo and that they replace client-supplied forwarding headers. Configure trusted proxy ranges narrowly for the deployment.\n\n## Credits\n\nReported and patched by @rm-Umar. @Duodum independently reported the same issue in GHSA-c3r7-8j36-7mx8, which is tracked as a duplicate of this advisory.","state":0,"publishedAt":"2026-10-23T20:50:25+00:00","modifiedAt":"2026-11-05T23:25:48.5227228+00:00","affected":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/labstack/echo/v5","ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"kind":"introduced","version":"5.0.0"},{"kind":"fixed","version":"5.4.1"}]}],"versions":[],"rawVersionEvidence":null}],"metrics":[{"system":"CVSS_V3","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N","score":null,"severity":null},{"system":"Publisher rating","vector":null,"score":null,"severity":"MODERATE"}],"references":["https://github.com/labstack/echo/security/advisories/GHSA-h53f-rm2w-w7rg","https://github.com/labstack/echo/commit/1855061e572ae9dab727c811d8382f266bfbaaec","https://github.com/labstack/echo","https://github.com/labstack/echo/releases/tag/v5.4.1"],"sourceUrl":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-h53f-rm2w-w7rg","license":"GitHub Advisory Database · CC-BY-4.0","key":"osv:GHSA-h53f-rm2w-w7rg","identifiers":["GHSA-h53f-rm2w-w7rg","CVE-2026-118265","GO-2026-6841"]},"retained":false,"historicalAffected":[]},{"revision":"e8adb4565e63476bb10eea80ae1d56f5","observedAt":"2026-11-05T23:38:32.248+00:00","statement":{"source":"osv","id":"GO-2026-6841","aliases":["CVE-2026-118265","GHSA-h53f-rm2w-w7rg"],"title":"Echo: X-Real-IP extractor trusts the header value instead of the sending peer in github.com/labstack/echo","description":"Echo: X-Real-IP extractor trusts the header value instead of the sending peer in github.com/labstack/echo","state":0,"publishedAt":"2026-11-05T22:54:11+00:00","modifiedAt":"2026-11-05T23:25:48.5227228+00:00","affected":[{"ecosystem":"Go","name":"github.com/labstack/echo/v5","ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"kind":"introduced","version":"5.0.0"},{"kind":"fixed","version":"5.4.1"}]}],"versions":[],"rawVersionEvidence":null}],"metrics":[],"references":["https://github.com/labstack/echo/security/advisories/GHSA-h53f-rm2w-w7rg","https://github.com/labstack/echo/commit/1855061e572ae9dab727c811d8382f266bfbaaec","https://github.com/labstack/echo/releases/tag/v5.4.1"],"sourceUrl":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GO-2026-6841","license":"OSV · upstream source license applies","key":"osv:GO-2026-6841","identifiers":["GO-2026-6841","CVE-2026-118265","GHSA-h53f-rm2w-w7rg"]},"retained":false,"historicalAffected":[]}],"coverage":[{"source":"cisa-kev:global","scope":"Complete CISA KEV catalog; all vendors.
