It does not constitute a sandbox escape or remote code execution. All multi-user n8n instances running the JS task runner with built-in or external modules enabled are affected.\n\n## Patches\n\nThe issue has been fixed in n8n versions 1.123.67, 2.31.5, and 2.32.1. Users should upgrade to one of these versions or later to remediate the vulnerability.\n\n## Workarounds\n\nIf upgrading is not immediately possible, administrators should consider the following temporary mitigations:\n- Restrict n8n instance access to fully trusted users only.\n- Disable built-in and external module access in Code nodes by unsetting `NODE_FUNCTION_ALLOW_BUILTIN` and `NODE_FUNCTION_ALLOW_EXTERNAL`, which removes the poisonable module surface.\n- Use the external runner mode with a dedicated runner per user or project if your deployment supports it.\n\nThese workarounds do not fully remediate the risk and should only be used as short-term mitigation measures.","state":0,"publishedAt":"2026-07-22T23:18:39+00:00","modifiedAt":"2026-08-12T04:26:14.3075523+00:00","affected":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"n8n","ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"kind":"introduced","version":"0"},{"kind":"fixed","version":"1.123.67"}]}],"versions":[],"rawVersionEvidence":null},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"n8n","ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"kind":"introduced","version":"2.32.0"},{"kind":"fixed","version":"2.32.1"}]}],"versions":[],"rawVersionEvidence":null},{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"n8n","ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"kind":"introduced","version":"2.0.0-rc.0"},{"kind":"fixed","version":"2.31.5"}]}],"versions":[],"rawVersionEvidence":null}],"metrics":[{"system":"CVSS_V4","vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:P/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:H/SI:H/SA:H","score":null,"severity":null},{"system":"Publisher rating","vector":null,"score":null,"severity":"MODERATE"}],"references":["https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n/security/advisories/GHSA-9cmh-xcqm-5hqr","https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n","https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n/releases/tag/n8n@1.123.67","https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n/releases/tag/n8n@2.31.5","https://github.com/n8n-io/n8n/releases/tag/n8n@2.32.1"],"sourceUrl":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-9cmh-xcqm-5hqr","license":"GitHub Advisory Database · CC-BY-4.0","key":"osv:GHSA-9cmh-xcqm-5hqr","identifiers":["GHSA-9cmh-xcqm-5hqr","CVE-2026-72764"]},"retained":false,"historicalAffected":[]}],"coverage":[]}
