Unlike GNU tail, the uutils implementation continues to monitor a path after it has been replaced by a symbolic link, subsequently outputting the contents of the link's target. In environments where a privileged user (e.g., root) monitors a log directory, a local attacker with write access to that directory can replace a log file with a symlink to a sensitive system file (such as /etc/shadow), causing tail to disclose the contents of the sensitive file.","state":0,"publishedAt":"2026-04-22T18:31:44+00:00","modifiedAt":"2026-09-10T03:50:44.9034652+00:00","affected":[{"ecosystem":"crates.io","name":"coreutils","ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"kind":"introduced","version":"0"},{"kind":"last_affected","version":"0.8.0"}]}],"versions":[],"rawVersionEvidence":null}],"metrics":[{"system":"CVSS_V3","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:L/A:N","score":null,"severity":null},{"system":"Publisher rating","vector":null,"score":null,"severity":"MODERATE"}],"references":["https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-35345","https://github.com/uutils/coreutils/issues/10328","https://github.com/uutils/coreutils"],"sourceUrl":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-xf75-659h-cgg5","license":"GitHub Advisory Database · CC-BY-4.0","key":"osv:GHSA-xf75-659h-cgg5","identifiers":["GHSA-xf75-659h-cgg5","CVE-2026-35345"]},"retained":false,"historicalAffected":[]}],"coverage":[]}
