Windows Components › Internet Explorer › Compatibility View
Use Policy List of Quirks Mode sites
Supported on At least Internet Explorer 8.0
What it does
Compatibility View determines how Internet Explorer identifies itself to a web server and determines whether content is rendered in Quirks Mode or the Standards Mode available in the latest version of Internet Explorer. If you enable this policy setting, Internet Explorer uses an Internet Explorer 7 user agent string (with an additional string appended). Additionally, webpages included in this list appear in Quirks Mode.
What it writes
- Hive
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE or HKEY_CURRENT_USER
- Registry key
Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\BrowserEmulation\QuirksPolicyList
In Intune
No native CSP; import the ADMX (Intune-ready).
From Microsoft's Policy CSP DDF files (DDF v2 Files, February 2026), read 18 Oct 2026.

- The OMA-URI is an inferred ADMX-backed Policy CSP candidate derived from the source ADMX file name and policy name.
- Some Microsoft policies use built-in Policy CSP pages whose area names don't match the ADMX file name, so verify the candidate against Microsoft Learn before deployment.
- The generated payload is incomplete because one or more ADMX element values were not supplied: QuirksMode_SiteList
