Windows Components › App Package Deployment
Disable installing Windows apps on non-system volumes
Supported on At least Windows 8.1 Update 2
What it does
This policy setting allows you to manage installing Windows apps on additional volumes such as secondary partitions, USB drives, or SD cards. If you enable this setting, you can't move or install Windows apps on volumes that are not the system volume. If you disable or do not configure this setting, you can move or install Windows apps on other volumes.
What it writes
- Hive
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- Registry key
Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Appx- Value name
RestrictAppToSystemVolume- When enabled
- DWORD 1
- When disabled
- DWORD 0
Why it needs changes for Intune
- Policy references a Windows supportedOn definition.
- ADMX-INTUNE-WINDOWS-SUPPORTEDON-REFERENCE

These deployment candidates come from the ADMX template; they are separate from the native CSP mapping above.
- The OMA-URI is an inferred ADMX-backed Policy CSP candidate derived from the source ADMX file name and policy name.
- Some Microsoft policies use built-in Policy CSP pages whose area names don't match the ADMX file name, so verify the candidate against Microsoft Learn before deployment.
