Start Menu and Taskbar

Force Start to be either full screen size or menu size

Computer and userNative Intune settingForceStartSize

Supported on At least Windows Server 2016 or Windows 10

What it does

If you enable this policy and set it to Start menu or full screen Start, Start will be that size and users will be unable to change the size of Start in Settings. If you disable or don’t configure this policy setting, Windows will automatically select the size based on hardware form factor and users will be able to change the size of Start in Settings.

What it writes

Hive
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE or HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Registry key
Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
Why it needs changes for Intune
  • Policy references a Windows supportedOn definition.
  • ADMX-INTUNE-WINDOWS-SUPPORTEDON-REFERENCE

These deployment candidates come from the ADMX template; they are separate from the native CSP mapping above.

  • The OMA-URI is an inferred ADMX-backed Policy CSP candidate derived from the source ADMX file name and policy name.
  • Some Microsoft policies use built-in Policy CSP pages whose area names don't match the ADMX file name, so verify the candidate against Microsoft Learn before deployment.
