Windows Components › App Package Deployment
Prevent users' app data from being stored on non-system volumes
Supported on At least Windows 8.1 Update 2
What it does
Prevent users' app data from moving to another location when an app is moved or installed on another location. If you enable this setting, all users' app data will stay on the system volume, regardless of where the app is installed. If you disable or do not configure this setting, then when an app is moved to a different volume, the users' app data will also move to this volume.
What it writes
- Hive
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- Registry key
Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Appx- Value name
RestrictAppDataToSystemVolume- When enabled
- DWORD 1
- When disabled
- DWORD 0
Why it needs changes for Intune
- Policy references a Windows supportedOn definition.

These deployment candidates come from the ADMX template; they are separate from the native CSP mapping above.
- The OMA-URI is an inferred ADMX-backed Policy CSP candidate derived from the source ADMX file name and policy name.
- Some Microsoft policies use built-in Policy CSP pages whose area names don't match the ADMX file name, so verify the candidate against Microsoft Learn before deployment.
