When the package is imported, lib/index.js unconditionally performs an HTTPS GET to https://raw.githubusercontent.com/alannzxd/xclient/refs/heads/main/information.json and prints the first element of the response to the console. The fetched content is treated as a string for display only — it is not passed to eval/Function/exec, and no installer data is sent in the request body. However, every consumer's IP address is revealed to the author on each import, and the URL points to a mutable branch on a personal GitHub repository, so the content can be changed by the author at any time without a new package release. Additionally, the package name closely mirrors the well-known @whiskeysockets/baileys library and may be installed by mistake by users expecting the upstream. The lib/Utils/generics.js reference to 'ping' is a benign network-reachability helper, not exfiltration. As written, the package does not exfiltrate credentials, execute remote code, or destroy installer-side resources, so it falls below the block threshold; however, the import-time beacon to a mutable author-controlled source and the namespace-confusion risk warrant human review. ## Source: ghsa-malware (840c3322267f13ca6fa905016fabb93a923c1a490fa0584d9e173f0f0a8f71d0) Any computer that has this package installed or running should be considered fully compromised. All secrets and keys stored on that computer should be rotated immediately from a different computer. The package should be removed, but as full control of the computer may have been given to an outside entity, there is no guarantee that removing the package will remove all malicious software resulting from installing it.
