Enable password backup for DSRM accounts
Supported on At least Microsoft Windows 10 or later
What it does
When you enable this setting, the DSRM administrator account password will be managed and backed up to Active Directory. Enabling this setting has no effect unless the managed device is a domain controller and password encryption is also enabled. If this setting is enabled, the password for the DSRM administrator account on the domain controller will be backed up to Active Directory. If this setting is disabled or not configured, the password for the DSRM administrator account on the domain controller will not be backed up to Active Directory. See https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2188435 for more information.
What it writes

In Intune
No native CSP; import the ADMX (Intune-ready).
From Microsoft's Policy CSP DDF files (DDF v2 Files, February 2026), read 18 Oct 2026.
Security baselines
Microsoft's Windows 11 v26H2 Security Baseline v2 sets this to Enabled, in its GPO “MSFT Windows 11 26H2 - Computer”.
- Policy value ADBackupDSRMPassword
- Sets ADBackupDSRMPassword to 1 (REG_DWORD).
Read from the registry.pol files in the baselines' GPO backups, downloaded from Microsoft's Security Compliance Toolkit. All baselines

- The OMA-URI is an inferred ADMX-backed Policy CSP candidate derived from the source ADMX file name and policy name.
- Some Microsoft policies use built-in Policy CSP pages whose area names don't match the ADMX file name, so verify the candidate against Microsoft Learn before deployment.
