Dynamics 365 Field Service: Manage rental service demand with work order requests

Rental organizations need to coordinate commercial rental activity, equipment availability, asset condition, and service execution across multiple teams and applications. Service needs can arise while equipment is in stock, in transit, at a customer site, or being returned, but those needs don’t always require an immediate work order.

This feature connects rental operations in Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain Management with Dynamics 365 Field Service by introducing fleet items and work order requests for rental service scenarios. Field Service users can view relevant fleet, rental contract, location, movement, and asset information while service needs can be captured and reviewed before a work order is created.

Work order requests provide a controlled intake and approval process, allowing teams to validate service needs before committing technicians, inventory, or scheduling resources. When approved, a request can create a Field Service work order while preserving the relevant fleet item, asset, and rental context as the work progresses.
