Dynamics 365 Business Central: Supply Chain Management - Use inventory put-aways and picks for subcontracting
Summary
Business Value
Companies that use basic warehouse configurations can include subcontracting in the same inventory activities they use for other inbound and outbound work. Warehouse employees can process subcontracted output without switching to warehouse receipts, and production teams can move work-in-process items (WIP items) between locations without treating them as physical inventory.
Details
The activities respect the different accounting and inventory effects of final and intermediate routing operations. They also preserve unit-of-measure conversions, bin information, and item tracking where the subcontracting flow supports those details.
You can use inventory put-aways for subcontracting purchase lines at locations that require put-away processing but don't require warehouse receipts. You can also use inventory picks and return put-aways for WIP transfer orders.
The posting behavior depends on the source line:
For the final subcontracting operation, posting the inventory put-away records physical production output and the related capacity. Serial and lot tracking assigned to the production order flows to the subcontracting documents and resulting item ledger entries.
