bird-lg-go: Fatal Out-of-Memory (OOM) Denial of Service via Unbounded JSON Decoding
Collected exploitation and prediction evidence
Risk source coverageCISA KEV is observed exploitation evidence. FIRST EPSS is a dated prediction of exploitation in the next 30 days. Missing scores are unknown. This collector requests predictions only for explicit CVE aliases in the public NuGet archive; Microsoft release views retain their existing prediction scope.
No collected risk observation for these identifiers. This does not establish absence of exploitation or a zero probability.

Publishedbird-lg-go is a BIRD looking glass in Go. Prior to 1.4.5, the apiHandler (and similarly webHandlerTelegramBot) processes user-provided JSON payloads by directly using json.NewDecoder(r.Body).Decode(&request) without restricting the maximum read size. An unauthenticated remote attacker can stream an extremely large, endless JSON payload (e.g., several Gigabytes of padding) over a single TCP connection. Because Go's JSON decoder attempts to allocate memory for the entire parsed structure, this rapidly exhausts the host's physical RAM or container limits, leading to an unrecoverable fatal error: runtime: out of memory. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.4.5.

EUVD source date text has no stated timezone and is retained without inventing a UTC instant. Related bulletin membership is not an alias, common cause or applicability claim. A missing vector with a zero score is treated as unrated. Complete vendor/product and underlying source evidence remains in the original JSON.

Published### Summary The `apiHandler` (and similarly `webHandlerTelegramBot`) processes user-provided JSON payloads by directly using `json.NewDecoder(r.Body).Decode(&request)` without restricting the maximum read size. An unauthenticated remote attacker can stream an extremely large, endless JSON payload (e.g., several Gigabytes of padding) over a single TCP connection. Because Go's JSON decoder attempts to allocate memory for the entire parsed structure, this rapidly exhausts the host's physical RAM or container limits, leading to an unrecoverable `fatal error: runtime: out of memory`. This causes the Linux OOM Killer to instantly terminate the entire `bird-lg-go` daemon, resulting in a severe Remote Denial of Service (RDoS). ### Details In `api.go`: ```go func apiHandler(w http.ResponseWriter, r *http.Request) { var request apiRequest // VULNERABILITY: No http.MaxBytesReader protection before JSON decode err := json.NewDecoder(r.Body).Decode(&request) // ...
