Microsoft Teams is updating the Record and transcribe automatically setting in Meeting options, so meeting organizers see only the automatic recording and transcription options permitted by their assigned Teams meeting policies. This change reduces confusion, improves policy compliance, and helps ensure organizers cannot select options that are unavailable based on organizational settings.
As part of this update, Teams will introduce a new Record only option that automatically starts meeting recording without starting transcription.
Rollout schedule
- Targeted Release: Beginning in early November 2026 and expected to complete by mid-November 2026
- General Availability (Worldwide): Beginning in early December 2026 and expected to complete by mid-December 2026

- Meeting organizers will only see automatic recording and transcription options allowed by their effective Teams meeting policy.
- Policy evaluation respects policies assigned directly to a user, inherited through group assignment, or applied through the global policy.
- A new Record only option will be available when recording is permitted by policy.
- The available automatic options for each policy combination are shown below:
